X-MEN: First Pin-Up

And probably last of its kind, at least for a while.

Above is a commission I did for a nice young man by the name of Simon who messaged me a while ago, asking if I'd be willing to do a commission for him in return for him sending me an original piece of art. That piece of art was from one of my all-time favorites, Mr. Michael Allred! I agreed and got to work on an X-Men ensemble piece. That was over a year ago.

Extracurricular drawing is hard! And this was a huge group scene! Wah! All in all, Simon was very patient with me, and I think is pleased with the final result as well.

Here's a detail at all of the individual X-Men in the piece

Upon completion, he suggested it might be cool to make an animated gif showcasing the evolution of the piece from sketch to finish. I thought to myself, "good call."

Mass Effect: Evolution #3

Spotted the solicits for this issue last week.

It's the cover to the third issue of Darkhorse and Bioware's Mass Effect: Evolution series! This particular cover focuses on a new character to the Mass Effect universe, who shall remain a mystery for now...

Star Wars: Knight Errant 5

The solicits on this cover came out while I was overseas, so I'm a little late to the game in posting it to my blog. Anywho, this here cover represents the last of my Star Wars covers for Dark Horse. At least for the time being...
They were a lot of fun to work on, and I'm super thankful that I asked to work on them in the first place, making my own minute contribution to the Star Wars (!!) universe. Thanks DH and Lucasfilm!

LILLE COMICS FESTIVAL: Mistah Jay Approved!

This weekend I will be attending the fourth annual Comics Festival in Lille, France. I'm super excited to go, as it'll be my first time in the country. Anyway, the show organizer thought it would be a fun idea to get a bunch of the guest artists visiting to each do a Jim Steranko tribute piece. I decided it would be fun to draw a variation of Steranko's 'Shanna The She-Devil' cover from 1972, substituting in Ms. Harleen Quinzell, a couple of hyenas, and the Bat-Family. It was.
Ms. Maris Wicks, who will be joining me, was kind enough to supply colors for the piece, with some minor tweaks from me. She did a fantastic job.

To my friends in Lille:
I'll be doing both free and paid sketches there, as well as selling signed prints. Here are my rates:

Prints:
Small (letter size/ 216 x 279 mm) - €3
Large (tabloid size /279 x 432 mm) - €15

Sketches:
Head (black and white)- €44 (color) - €75
Partial Figure (black and white)- €85 (color)- €125

I'll have some original art on hand to look at as well. Otherwise --

Je m'excuse à l'avance pour ne pas être en mesure de parler français. Maris sera fait de son mieux pour traduire pour moi. Je pue.

A très bientôt!

Mass Effect: Evolution # 2

Saw this floating around the interwebs today -

Above is my second variant cover for the up and coming Mass Effect: Evolution mini-series, due out early next year. This installment features the cybernetic-enhanced, megalomaniacal alien from the first installment of the video game series, Saren. I'm a big fan of the games, so it was fun getting to illustrate two very intriguing characters from its universe. (The other being The Illusive Man)

Hope you like!

Out With a BANG

Above is the last of my sketches from this year's Small Press Expo - the one and only clown prince of crime, The Joker. The commission came from an avid DC comis fan and art collector, Adam Uvenk, who came up with a great idea for a series of convention sketches. In 2008, Adam began a "multi-page jam piece of DC villains drawn and inked by artists who are currently or have previously worked" for the company. He has several pages in process right now, here's the one I got to contribute to:

Yup, that's me beside Gabriel Hardman, Mark McKenna and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez!

Anyway, really fun idea and I was glad I got to be a part of it. If you're interested seeing more of Adam's jam pieces (they're all pretty sweet), click here.

Okay that's it for now, see you all again tomorrow for the next 'Photobooth Friday.'
